If you’ve ever considered hiring a personal trainer, then the chances are that you’ve needed help with one or more of the following: motivation, inspiration, information and/or accountability.
Motivation and accountability are very similar but not the same. Ruling out accountability first, this is when you need a trainer (or someone) to hold you accountable for your commitments. For example, when you agree to a specific time and day for your workout, you can count on that person being there for you. And if you don’t show up, you’re in trouble.
Motivation is a little different and can come in many forms. Sometimes, when the going gets tough, you need to hear encouraging words from someone you trust, like “you’re doing great, take it to the limit.” As long as they are knowledgeable enough to keep your safety first, this can be a big help with attaining your best possible results. Sometimes you just need someone to help keep you focused and on track.
Inspiration is simple and yet so powerful. When you see an attribute in someone that you want to possess or emulate, everything changes. It’s as easy as thinking “well, if this person can achieve it, maybe I can too,” and then hope is born. Inspiration can be the difference between a person doing nothing at all, and becoming a champion.
The last category is the most important one and it supersedes all others. Information, or knowledge, is the key to your personal power and to consciously attaining your goals. If you’re someone who needs this information, then your trainer should be someone very experienced and knowledgeable. They should be able to provide you with an exact plan of action to attain your specific and personal fitness, weight loss and/or body shaping goals, and they should be able to completely explain it to you on demand. Anything less than this, and you’re rolling the dice with your safety, time and money.
